PROMOTION Avon House Preparatory School GIRLS AND BOYS 3-11 CELEBRATING& SUPPORTIN EVERY CHILD REMEMBERANCE 2018 Much has been written recently about the need for children to understand, reflect and consider what the significance of the 1th November was and the connection with poppies. At Avon House this is always a poignant event and this year our thoughts turned to the 100th anniversary of the First World War. The children created poppies out of recycled plastic bottles and these were displayed on school railings. School assembly was led by Year 5 who had researched the topic in history. They sang a moving rendition of In Flanders Fields" and the last post was played by a pupil. During the morning an array of poppy activities took place and a photographic image of 1914-1918 was taken. Pupils were encouraged to reflect on the impact of war and the part they play in creating a peaceful world during the 2 minutes silence at . Children really embraced how war affects the world, and how those who fought for our rights still has an impact today As a Unicef Rights Respecting School we feel passionate about sowing seeds of peace For further information visit www.avonhouseschool.co.uk To arrange a tour of our school please contact the school office Avon House School, 490 High Road, Woodford Green, Essex IG8 OPN Telephone: 020 8504 1749 Email: registrar@ahsprep.co.uk
